Covering an area of over 1,500 square km, the Masai Mara National Park is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Kenya. Mara ia the home of ancient African Worriers, the Maasai. Together with the adjoining Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the south , they make the home to a huge population of elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, gazelle and impala. Predators are plentiful especially the cheeteh, crocodile, leopard and lion. Bird life is abundant with 450 species having been recorded. Attractions A grand spectacle to be seen at least once in a lifetime is the annual migration of wildebeest. More than 1.5 million wildebeest accompanied by Zebras march to Maasai Mara from Serengeti in July, forming a single column extending tens of kilometers, where they remain till october when they begin to trek southbound, back to Serengeti. Among the wildlife sanctuaries of the world Maasai Mara is considred by many visitors to be the most pisturesque. Balloon safaris are one of the unique features of the Mara giving the traveller an everlasting memory of this great country. Access Road - Main roads are all weather. Game viewing trucks can only be used by four wheel drives during the rainy season. The main road from Mai mahiu to Narok is currently under construction. By Air - Three airstrips serve the Mara:- Keekorok, Olkiombo, and Musiara all of them murramed.
